Prof. Tan Sri Dr. Jemilah Mahmood
Fighting for planetary health in Malaysia
Share this project
As a doctor, Prof. Tan Sri Dr. Jemilah Mahmood worked for many years going from one crisis to another crisis, often due to natural disasters. That’s when she evolved her career as a medical professional and started Sunway Center for Planetary Health in her home country of Malaysia. It is a “think and do tank” focused on the link between planetary health and the health of civilization. They help drive policies to help improve and preserve the planet, communications to help people engage with the science of climate change and education through leadership development and knowledge sharing around planetary health. As a result of their work, Malaysia is the first country in the world with a Planetary Health National Action Plan.
