The responsibility of being human

"Sometimes my family gets depressed at the enormity of what we’re facing," says marine biologist, photographer and writer Cristina Mittermeier. "But I’m an optimist, and I’m a mother and I just don’t see any other way. Sometimes I wish I just didn’t care, and could buy plastic bottles and eat whatever — I just can’t allow myself. You tighten up your boots and keep going at it.” Mitty is passionate about using visual storytelling and digital actions to restore health and abundance to our oceans. She runs SeaLegacy, a nonprofit at the nexus of ocean and climate. Through her photography, she creates images to help people understand the urgency of protecting wild places and the responsibility of being human.
